FISHING

Strathmore RiverLoch Hope is well known for its sea trout fishing as well as for salmon fishing. The Loch is fished from a boat on the South End where there are three beats which rotate daily. No outboards are allowed. Wet fly fishing is the commonly accepted method but dapping can also be very successful. The South End has always been considered the cream of the Loch. A gillie can be available at times.

Success - a first salmon!

The Strathmore River which flows northwards into Loch Hope is very much a spate river but it can provide excellent sport for both salmon fishing and sea trout fishing. This shingle based river contains some of the main spawning ground for the Hope river system. Thigh waders are normally sufficient but there are some pools where no wading is necessary.

Loch Meadie is a brown trout loch at the head of the River Naver Loch Meadie and Ben Loyalsystem. A boat is available with an outboard engine. Two or three trout to the pound is about the average size. On the loch one can enjoy impressive views of Ben Loyal, known as the Queen of Scottish Mountains.

There are also some small hill lochs which involve about an hour's walk up the hill. The walk is well worth the effort as it provides stunning views of Loch Hope, the surrounding hills and as far as thethe Hayfield Pool north coast. The size of trout in these lochs is very variable.

Two nearby Lochs were stocked with brown trout some years ago. These Lochs are easily accessible and can be fished from either the bank or from a boat on the larger loch. Only barbless hooks may be used on these lochs as one likes to return any small fish. One child under fourteen years may fish free.

All fishing is with fly only.

Prices are available on request and vary according to the time of year.
